Adobe Illustrator's Turntable Feature: Generate 360° Views of Your Vector Art

What is Turntable in Illustrator?

Turntable is a new AI-powered feature in Adobe Illustrator 2026 that takes your flat 2D vector artwork and generates rotated views from different angles — automatically. Think of it like spinning a 3D object, but starting from a 2D drawing.

You draw a character, logo, or object from one angle, and Turntable generates what it looks like from the side, back, three-quarter view, or any angle you want. No 3D modeling required.

Why This is a Big Deal

Traditionally, if you needed a character from multiple angles (for animation, game assets, or style guides), you had to manually redraw each view. A character turnaround sheet could take hours or days.

Turntable does it in seconds.

How It Works

1. Draw your artwork

Create your vector illustration as you normally would — a character, mascot, logo, product, or any object.

2. Open Turntable

Go to Window > Turntable or find it in the generative AI panel.

3. Drag the rotation slider

Spin your artwork to any angle. Illustrator's AI generates the rotated view in real-time, maintaining your art style and vector quality.

4. Generate multiple views

Create a full turnaround sheet with views at 0°, 45°, 90°, 135°, 180° — all laid out on your canvas as editable vectors.

Best Use Cases

Character design turnarounds

The most obvious use. Draw your character from the front, generate side and back views for animation reference sheets. What used to take a full day now takes minutes.

Logo presentations

Show clients how their logo looks from different perspectives. Great for logos that will be used on 3D products, signage, or merchandise.

Game asset creation

Generate sprite rotations for 2D games. Draw one angle, get 8 directional views for top-down or isometric games.

Product illustration

Draw a product from one angle, generate additional views for packaging, marketing materials, or e-commerce listings.

Pixel art and retro styles

Turntable works with pixel art vectors too. Generate rotated sprites without manually placing each pixel.

Animation planning

Create key poses from different angles to plan your animation before committing to full frame-by-frame work.

Limitations to Know

  • Works best with simple, clean shapes — highly detailed illustrations may produce inconsistent results
  • It's AI-generated — you'll likely need to clean up some views manually
  • Vector output — results are editable vectors, but may need path cleanup
  • Style consistency — complex textures or patterns may not rotate perfectly
  • Requires Creative Cloud subscription — not available in older versions
  • Tips for Best Results

  • Use clean, well-defined shapes with clear outlines
  • Solid colors work better than complex gradients
  • Symmetrical objects produce more accurate rotations
  • Start with a three-quarter view for the most useful rotations
  • Generate multiple variations and pick the best one

Turntable vs Traditional 3D in Illustrator

Illustrator already had basic 3D effects (Extrude, Revolve, Inflate). Here's how Turntable differs:

3D Effects: Takes flat art and adds depth/perspective mechanically. Results look "extruded" — like paper cutouts in 3D space.

Turntable: Uses AI to imagine what your art looks like from another angle. Results look like hand-drawn illustrations from different viewpoints.

Turntable is better for character art and organic shapes. 3D effects are better for geometric objects and text.

Record Your Turntable Workflow

Creating turnaround sheets with Turntable is a fascinating process to watch as a timelapse. Record your Illustrator window with ChefLapse as you generate and refine multi-angle views — it makes great social media content showing AI-assisted design workflows.
